Tezhip

Tezhip means “gilding”, “illumination”. It is always possible to make tezhip without using gold, of course. But it is always more meaningful and preferrable for a painting if

smashed gold is applied with a properly prepared gelatin and then with a burnisher.  Mainly gouache is used for the ornamentaion and acrylic can be used for the back ground.

Traditionally, Tezhip is made with a harmonious design with the “Calligraphy” it surrounds and has got certain rules.

I have always been careful with the rules and then in time, was able to put my own interpretation in my work. I have come a long way to find my own style and to develop

it during the last fifteen long but very pleasant years.

Sincerely,

Esra
